Who we are

National Reference Institute for Sustainable Development of the Union of the Comoros since 1999.

An Institute at the Heart of
National Development

INRAPE is the national reference institution for scientific research applied to the fields of agriculture, fisheries and the environment in the Comoros.

Under the supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, our institute brings together more than 120 Comorian and international researchers, technicians and experts. Our fundamental mission is to produce rigorous, accessible and directly usable scientific knowledge for the sustainable development and food security of the Union of the Comoros.

INRAPE conducts research on the three islands of the archipelago — Grande Comore, Anjouan and Mohéli — integrating local realities into each scientific approach. Our work covers tropical agriculture, marine resources, terrestrial biodiversity and national food policies.

What guides us on a daily basis

Every researcher, technician and INRAPE administrator is committed to common values that define our institutional identity.

Scientific method

We apply rigorous methods, validated by national and international peers, to ensure the reliability of our results and the integrity of our publications.

Adapted innovation

Our technological solutions are designed to respond to Comorian realities — island topography, limited resources, cultural practices — by promoting accessible technologies.

Service to Communities

INRAPE's research is field-oriented. We co-construct our programmes with farmers, fishermen and local communities for a concrete and sustainable impact.

international openness

We maintain active collaborations with world-renowned institutions — FAO, CIRAD, IRD, EU — to anchor Comorian research in global standards.

Institutional Excellence

INRAPE is committed to maintaining the highest standards of governance, transparency and accountability to the State, our partners and the Comorian population.

Transmitting knowledge

Training the next generation of Comorian scientists is at the heart of our mission. We welcome trainees, doctoral students and young researchers throughout the year.
